Reader terms for the atelier journal

A short set of expectations that covers how this journal may be read, quoted and shared, and what it is honestly for.

Last revised · 3 Sep 2026 Version · three

Reading the journal

Marigold & Mortar publishes notes, essays and craft guides about artisanal confectionery: sugar work, botanical flavouring, seasonal menus and the small mechanics of a working candy kitchen. Everything here is offered for reading and for pleasure.

By continuing to browse the site you accept these terms. If something here does not sit right with you, the simplest and entirely reasonable response is to stop reading — no account to close, nothing to cancel.

Editorial, not a shop

This is a magazine-style journal. It is not a storefront. There are no carts, no product listings and no transactions of any kind on these pages. Where we describe a candy, a tool or an ingredient, we are describing an experience or a technique, not offering anything for sale.

Recipes and ratios are shared as craft notes. They describe what happens in one particular kitchen with one particular kettle, and they are written for readers who are curious rather than for readers seeking a guaranteed result.

Quoting & sharing

You are welcome to quote a paragraph or two with a clear credit to Marigold & Mortar and a working reference back to the page. Teachers, students, home candy makers and other food writers may reproduce short excerpts for non-commercial purposes.

Wholesale copying of an article, republication of a full page, or use of our writing to train or populate a commercial content product is not permitted without written permission.

Illustrations

Every illustration on this site is an original vector drawing made for the journal. The artwork is our property. Please do not lift the graphics for use in packaging, labelling, advertising or merchandise — a surprising amount of candy branding starts with borrowed art, and we would rather draw yours properly if you ask.

Fair use of the site

The journal is provided on ordinary, reasonable terms. Please do not attempt to break it, scrape it aggressively, or place unreasonable load on it. Automated bulk collection of articles is not permitted, and neither is framing the pages inside another commercial property.

Limits

We write carefully, but we cannot promise that every page stays free of typos or that a technique described here will behave identically in your kitchen. Cooking sugar is genuinely hot work and outcomes vary with altitude, humidity and equipment.

To the fullest extent allowed by law, Marigold & Mortar is not responsible for loss or difficulty arising from reliance on the journal's content. Our kitchen advisory explains the practical side of this in more detail.
